Cuba Youth Conference 2012 is a Huge Success!

250 or more young people:

singing, praying, sharing their faith

...Beautiful!

-Her father left Cuba 5 years ago for Miami.  He's a doctor there now, but she aches to hear from him.

-He tries not to fight, but that's all he has known.  In a world so confusing, how can he accept Christ as the answer?

-She knows her mother has a good life in Spain.  Her mom left to seek new opportunities, but she hopes that someday they will be reunited.

So many stories of separation and hope.  The young people of Cuba have a strong passion for Christ, His blessings, and love.

Highlights:

Matanzas, Cuba was the warm host of the Youth Conference. Who needs air-conditioning when you're enjoying sharing Christ?

Our friendly organizers: Ammiel and Maricela, Tony and Luid, Roberto and Milan, plus so many others made this dream come true for all the young people who were able to attend the 2012 Youth Conference.

Bible lessons and songs were directed by the young people of Cuba.  Mario is only thirteen, but he proudly got up in front of the group and led a song. Others preached Christ, led prayers, some acted out dramatic skits and encouraged one another with songs.  Enjoy the attached videos.

16 Provinces: Young people came from all over the island to be together, many for the first time.  Some traveled by bus, car, trucks, and trains.  It was sad that one of the groups never made it due to problems with their train.  We hope next year they will all be able to make it to the conference.

FUN: Gifts and Prizes and Sharing Christ's Message

* Over 200 CDs of La Voz Alegre were given out to the youth. This radio program airs every Sunday night across the Caribbean

* 250 La Voz Alegre pens were handed out to promote listening to the program with family and friends.

* Cool, a bike!  The drawing for a balloon-covered bike was fun to watch.  The happy guy lifted it above his head in triumph.

Exciting Follow-up News from Cuba:

-"We have been receiving letters generated by the La Voz Alegre CD that was

given out to the young people at the Youth Conference.

Many people are listening to the CD, sharing the CD with their friends and

family, then writing to us for Bible studies.

The Bible courses from World Bible School have been a great blessing!  We are

receiving lists and lists of names requesting that the Bible courses be sent to

our young people's family and friends.

This is great!"

Scrubs for Cuba:

Baptism garments needed for women

43 sets of scrubs were donated.  Our dear friend, Sarah Andreu, shared her

talents, and made it a priority to monogram the scrub tops, Iglesia de Cristo.

Meet Maribel and Carlos Preciado!

Directors for the Spiritual Growth Workshop - Orlando, FL

Walking through the halls of the Rosen Hotel and  seeing the fellowship of Christian brothers and sisters hugging and greeting one another was delightful!

The 3 Amigos: Rex, Carlos Preciado, & Carlos Gonzalez

During the Spanish venue of the conference, the vibrant sound of over 300 people singing or watching a reenactment of the crucifixion of Christ could be experienced. Preachers from across the continent encouraged people to be proud of their faith in Christ and to reach out in love to their communities.  The theme of the workshop "Not Ashamed" was echoed in the classes and sermons.

30 years ago the first Spiritual Growth Workshop for the Churches of Christ, in Orlando, FL, was born.  The beginning years didn't include a Spanish program. The booming growth of Latino Christians in Florida gave birth to the first Spanish Program in 1990.  Since then, many wonderful Christ-filled people have enriched and encouraged the spirituality of the classes and fellowship.

This year Maribel and Carlos were officially chosen to direct and develop the future Spanish Spiritual Growth Workshop programs. Pray for them and for all the Christians who will assist them with this wonderful opportunity.

Positive Response to the Gospel via the Media

What does that have to do with a man and a bike?

Meeting Vladimir Sedeño Diaz for the first time in Cuba was an exciting moment.

He introduced himself to me and said, “I am one of the first listeners of the

radio program and I have brought 10 more people to the truth.  I feel

responsible to encourage everyone in Camaguey to listen to the programs.”

Vladamir continued with a request, “Please, I need $150.00 for a bicycle, I was

disabled while in the military, but with a bicycle I could encourage people all

over the Camaguey Province to tune-in to the programs on Trans World Radio.”

Within a week of my return to the USA, I received an email and this picture from

Vladimir.

Thank you Matthew Moore and our brothers from the Mayfair Church of Christ, who

donated the funds needed.

Meet Another Radio Listener

Elizabeth Delmonte Moliner  meets in her home every Sunday night with five

ladies and tunes-in to La Voz Alegre.  She said, “I know that this is a

preacher's conference, but I had to meet you.  Thank you for your program.”

 

She lives in Matanzas, Cuba.  She had a couple of requests. First a Bible with

large letters, which someone gave her while we were still in Cuba.  The other

request is a battery charger with AA rechargeable batteries, for her radio, so

that she can continue to listen to our radio programs each week.

Prayers and Bible courses are requested daily through our television and radio

broadcasts across the USA. Just this week, calls came in from Miami, Homestead,

Hialeah, and Tallahassee, Florida.  Also this week requests came in from Nevada,

New Mexico, California, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C.,

Virginia.

All of these requests for Bible courses are placed into the hands of World Bible

School for immediate follow-up with Spanish-speaking WBS teachers. Next, local churches and ministers receive the information to follow-up on people who live in their areas.

Please pray for our listeners and viewers in 20 countries including all 50 of our States.
