What's Going On? December 2012

FROM REX MORGAN
Reaching out to the Latin American World
We are so glad that you care about us!
From Barahona, Dominican Republic and across the Caribbean to Cuba.

Every Sunday night La Voz Alegre radio program shares the gospel of Jesus with people, and they are listening and responding.

"Pura Vida", the Good Life, was the theme of November's Gospel meeting in Barahona, Dominican Republic. The area had just been ravaged by the wind and flood waters of Hurricane Sandy which destroyed many of the bridges and the banana fields that so many count on for their livelihood. Many of the people were getting sick from dengue and other illnesses due to the storm and the havoc that it caused making conditions unsanitary.  Our 3-hour trip, via public bus, from Santo Domingo to Barahona took 8 hours due to a bridge being repaired in Azua.

In spite of theses difficulties, over 200 people showed up nightly to hear the gospel preached.  Everyone was encouraged to put their focus on Christ and his promises for their spiritual and family lives.  It was a joy to see many people restore their lives and their families back to Jesus.

The Lord opened the way to Barahona and the preaching of His message at a congregation where Santos Feliz Ruiz serves as evangelist. Santos is one of our radio program contributors.  His program is Vida en Perspectiva (Life In Perspective), a mental health radio message that is part of the La Voz Alegre (The Happy Voice) hour heard weekly in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico.

The campaign was followed by a wonderful worship service in Santo Domingo where more than 2,000 Dominican members of the churches of Christ gathered with visitors from the USA that were there to attend the Pan American Lectureship. This gathering gave us the opportunity to meet and greet, but also, to pass out
pens with information on how to tune-in to the radio hour each Sunday night. Many were encouraged and said that they would be tuning in and would invite others.

One of the purposes of our travel to the Dominican Republic was to encourage the Christians to promote the radio hour and to establish more effective follow-up.

Results of Christian Partnering at the Pan Am Lectureship in Santo Domingo:
On Sunday evening we were able to meet with the leaders of the church in Santo Domingo and discussed, with success, a cohesive follow-up strategy which will begin immediately.

It was a time of great synergy, fellowship, and expressions of appreciation for the roles that all play in reaching the lost.

Also with us in the meeting were representatives from World Bible School, Kristi Bond and Jonathan Towell, who partner with us in our follow-up efforts.

Radio production and broadcasting:

Franklin and Sorabel Gomez are innovative Christians.  Franklin is the IT Manager for Seaboard Marine, but his first passion is being an evangelist that has taken his IT knowledge and put it to work for the Lord. Franklin and Sorabel have a recording studio in their  home and broadcast 24 hours a day on their Internet radio station:]www.radioevangelistica.org. He will be a contributing speaker in our radio hour and will help us with some of our radio production in Santo Domingo.

Franklin also took me to Radio Ven and affiliate of Trans World Radio with hopes that we may also broadcast our radio hour with them.

Meeting at Radio Ven
We are also developing future partnerships:
A great meeting with Nathan and Yirenni Paden resulted in a possible partnership in broadcasting.  They have had a great deal of experience in broadcasting in the Dominican Republic and are ready to help us reach their nation.

Joel Sanchez, a native of the Dominican Republic, now preaching for the Skillman church of Christ in Dallas, Tx will be writing and recording radio messages that will help our listeners understand the hope that Jesus brings to them.

Looking for help?
Jesus cares for us by giving us living water.

Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you
and who you are speaking to, you would ask me,
and I would give you living water.”
John 4:10

Our dream is to make the saving message of Jesus available to all who seek Him. We are working to accomplish this through the use of the media and partnerships with local churches of Christ and their ministries.
